There are many fun things to do when camping with kids. Kids are great at card games and cribbage is a fun card game that also helps kids with their math skills.
The dealer will deal each person six cards from a deck of 52 and set two of those cards face down in front of them. The other player must also put two cards from their hand face down in front of the dealer.
This is a time to get rid of crummy cards if it’s not your crib and most kids learn this really quickly. If you’re the dealer and have a great hand sliding good cards into your crib is a great strategy as well.
The game progresses with each player striving to lay down 15 points at a time to move along the board. The winner of the game will be the first player to reach 121 points.
However, beware, if a player doesn’t make it half-way through the board before another player reaches 121 points, that player is “skunked”.
Being skunked is a huge deal to the players in cribbage and the player who wins the game is likely to gloat a bit over the fact that they skunked their younger sibling or parent.
This is a great game and loads of fun. Everyone can work on their math skills and younger players can easily team up with other players to learn strategies and how the game is played.
It only takes a few minutes to learn and a lifetime to master. Cribbage boards are fairly inexpensive and available anywhere that games are sold.
Cribbage is an ideal game to take camping and if it’s raining outside, it’s easy to play cribbage in the tent and still have a great time.
