People who haven’t camped before can feel intimidated by the choices of camping types and gear that is available to them. We can break it down for you so your decision-making can be easier.
Tent Camping – Many people start their camping adventures with a tent, a few sleeping bags, cooler, lantern, and stove of some kind. It’s the simplest way to camp and there are a lot of people who continue to tent camp all their lives. Others decide to move to a camper of some kind, usually as the family begins to grow. Tent camping is simple camping and you go without some of the amenities. You can have a campsite with water on it or there will be a water resource nearby. Tent sites are usually close to the bathroom so you don’t have far to walk, especially with kids or during the night.
RV Camping – This type of camping is more sheltered than tent camping and can be anything from a pop-up to a luxury motorhome. The comfort of RV camping is in more headroom, real beds, maybe sink/stove/bathroom features, and a place to keep your things stored. They can be more complicated as these RVs must be driven or towed to the campsite. You’ll want to practice before hitting the road and be sure to do a lot of backing up while you are learning your way around your new RV because it can be a challenge to master.
Cabin Camping – This kind of camping is probably the most convenient of all. You have the protection of an RV and the ease of being unpacked and enjoying the campground within about an hour of arriving. When it’s time to go, you only have to pack your gear and don’t have to deal with drying and packing a tent or driving an RV home. Cabins provide storage areas for your food and clothing while giving you the feeling of being in a small house. You get all the benefits of the campground without the expense or maintenance required when you camp in a tent or RV.
